Van Ness and S'pore wife bicker online

When Taiwanese actor-singer Van Ness Wu married his Singaporean wife Arissa Cheo in November 2013, their wedding was described as a fairy tale.

The couple, who had been dating on and off for seven years, even had two big wedding bashes, in California and at the St Regis Hotel in Singapore.

But if social media relations between the two are anything to go by, the dream wedding looks like it has become a bit of a nightmare.

In her latest salvo, Ms Cheo swore and called her husband, 36, a "fake". After that, he asked her to stop her rants.

The drama, which unfolded on photo-sharing platform Instagram, was screen-grabbed and reported on by Chinese website Tudou.com three days ago.

In a video that was uploaded on the site, which has since had close to 360,000 views, it was reported that Ms Cheo, 32, posted on Instagram with the quote: "I'm going to give you the same amount of effort as you give me."

She then signed off with expletives, which attracted comments from some netizens who said she should not swear.

She then posted another comment: "What's real and what's not? What you see on telly is definitely not real. Don't tell me what I know. And I (sic) swear if I want. Go away."

According to the video report on Tudou.com, Wu posted his own feelings about his wife's rant the next day, stating: "Mind your tongue".

However, this was apparently deleted soon after.

RETALIATED

Ms Cheo then reportedly retaliated to her husband's comment by posting another quote: "Stop letting people who do so little for you, control so much of your mind, feelings and emotions..."

Ms Cheo's Instagram account has been set to private since the debacle.

Netizens have been commenting furiously after watching the video.

A sample of the comments: "If Van Ness is a celebrity who keeps up false pretences, then just accept that he's fake. After all, how many celebrities are the real deal?"

"For Van Ness to marry this kind of wife (who will badmouth him like that in public), I feel so sorry for him."

"Why did they get married in the first place?"

This is not the first time the couple have had a public spat.

In April last year, both changed the names for their Instagram accounts and stopped posting pictures and updates about each other, sparking rumours that their marriage was on the rocks.

Ms Cheo also posted cryptic comments hinting at trouble in their relationship.

Messages she put up included: "The biggest mistake I have made in my life is letting people stay in my life far longer than they deserve" and "Don't stress over s*** you can't change", prompting fans to ask about their relationship.

In that same month, the couple were the focus of a romantic feature in the April issue of Prestige magazine, which they gave an exclusive interview to.

PRAISES

In the feature, each sang the praises of the other. Wu said that what he loves most about his wife is her "fierce but gentle and yet so giving" heart and Ms Cheo said that she loved him for his "giving heart and childlike innocence".

Wu said in the feature: "I had the ring for a good one year before I proposed. I always knew it would be for her."

The couple took a pragmatic approach to the ups and downs of a love story.

Ms Cheo said: "People also have this idealistic view of love. But we have to remember that love is not perfect."

Wu reiterated: "Which is why during the wedding, we shared this quote with everyone: 'Love is not about loving the perfect person, but loving the imperfect person perfectly.'"

A few months later, around September, the couple went on a second honeymoon in Greece. They posted their holiday pictures on Instagram.

In this latest spat, the couple have also stopped following each other's Instagram accounts.
