New Face 2015: Lin Jiahui

Lin Jiahui, 19

Double degree student at National University of Singapore

"I've tried Chinese dance, contemporary dance, cheerleading, hip hop and jazz. I am a performer and I live to be on stage."

Her role model is Misa Kuranaga, a Japanese ballet dancer. 

“Her story inspires me so much. Being Japanese means she has a very small build, but she was able to overcome that and be the first Asian principal dancer of the Boston Ballet.”

It is this desire to overcome that helps Jiahui cope with her own struggles with eczema, which is an inflammation of the skin.

“It affects my confidence while modelling, and there are certain clothes that I don’t wear in daily life,” Jiahui, a student at National University Singapore, said.

“I’m taking part in this competition to myself feel more comfortable in my own skin.

"I want to be able to do things I love and live an interesting, different, weird, life.”
