Movie Review: 1965 (PG13)
Co-directed by Randy Ang and Daniel Yun, 1965 is a thriller about the years leading up to Singapore's independence in 1965.
Qi Yuwu plays China-born police inspector Cheng, while his real-life wife Joanne Peh is coffeeshop owner Zhou Jun, who is the love interest of his younger brother Seng (James Seah).
All three are convincing enough, but it is veteran thespian Lim Kay Tong's portrayal of Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew that steals the show.
Despite having little screen time, he makes his scenes count and gives an outstanding and touching performance.
1965 is sure to evoke strong patriotic emotions in Singaporeans. An apt film to catch before the National Day weekend.
Rating: 3/5
