Must-see MVs
Hailee Steinfeld channels her inner Ariana Grande in Starving MV
BASTILLE - SEND THEM OFF
It's difficult to tell if this MV is leaning towards horror, science-fiction or fantasy. But whatever it is, it works.
The MV's protagonist, in a bid to escape from the antlered figure chasing him, wanders into increasingly strange situations, from streets full of people with blurred out faces, and burning rooms with couples making out. Aside from the expert editing, the video's tone matches that of the song's, transporting the audience into a new world.
HAILEE STEINFELD AND GREY FT. ZEDD - STARVING
Just who is Hailee Steinfeld trying to be?
The actress-turned-pop singer seems to have Ariana Grande as an idol, given the way the MV looks like a strange cross between Grande's MVs for Side To Side and Problem.
Steinfeld clads herself in skimpy clothing while dancing provocatively in front of the camera.
With Steinfield's baby face, it is strange and almost uncomfortable to look at.
SHAWN MENDES - MERCY
The MV is good on its own, but it's great because of how fresh it is.
A song like this could have been given a trite MV of an unhappy couple, but this one takes a different route. It puts the pop singer in a car that is slowly filling up with water until he breaks free towards the end.
The artistic approach, with interspersed scenes of Mendes playing instruments, breathes new life into the song.
