Sex-change surprise from Lennox Lewis' boxing promoter
Former boxing promoter, Frank Maloney, 61, has revealed that he wants to live the rest of his life as a woman named Kellie.
In an interview with the Mirror published on Sunday (Aug 10), the man who guided Lennox Lewis to become the world heavy weight champion in 1992 revealed that he has been preparing for a gender reassignment procedure after living as a woman for over year.
Maloney also revealed that in his darkest hours, he slipped into depression and turned to heavy drinking to cope with the struggle.
According to the Mirror, guidelines set by Britain's National Health Service (NHS) dictate that anyone who wishes to go through the surgery has to live as a woman for two years.
Secret therapy
Kellie, revealed that she has been undergoing secret hormone therapy, hair removal electrolysis voice coaching and counselling because she was afraid to reveal her secret to the testosterone-filled world of boxing.
She retired from the sport in October last year.
“Can you imagine me walking into a boxing hall dressed as a woman and putting an event on?" Kellie told the Mirror.
“I can imagine what they would scream at me. But if I had been in the theatre or arts world nobody would blink an eye about this transition.” Kellie added.
Overwhelming Support
Since coming out, there has been an outpouring of support for her announcement.
This includes his former charge, Lennox Lewis, who posted on his Facebook wall that while the news came as a total surprise to him (he thought it was a joke at first) he supported Maloney's decision to reveal his secret.
