Miss Universe Singapore applicant: She's already practising her walk
After cracking the Top 10 of Miss Singapore Beauty Pageant 2014 to photo shoots for Toni&Guy Hairdressing, Miss Nutan Rai Sonam, 24, is ready to take on Miss Universe Singapore 2016.
"It's exciting and unnerving at the same time," the nurse from Singapore National Eye Centre told The New Paper.
"I have been dwelling on the idea for a couple of years now and this year, I finally decided to step up and take the challenge.
"I feel that I'm more confident and ready now.
"I've learnt a lot about the kind of poses and expressions that a photographer is looking for, and where pageants are concerned, I think this will pull me out of my comfort zone and really test my abilities in every way possible."
The preparation process has already begun for Miss Sonam.
"I am working out and maintaining a good diet," she said.
POSTURE
"I've also started practising my walk, putting on my six-inch heels and making sure that my body posture is right when I walk," Miss Sonam said.
"Sometimes, just to be sure, I tuck a wooden ruler into the back of my trousers just to ensure I'm getting it right."
Miss Sonam is not taking chances, even at this early stage of calling for registrations.
Her passion for Miss Universe Singapore started long before she even dreamed of applying, having followed it for close to 10 years.
But it was only recently that she found her favourite beauty queen: 2014 winner Rathi Menon.
"What's there not to like about her? She is gorgeous and yet absolutely humble," said Miss Sonam.
"There's a lot I can learn from her if I were to make it into the competition.
"She answers questions intelligently and confidently, and that's something I hope to learn and potentially emulate if I become a finalist."
