Passengers were covered in glass after accident
GrabCar driver in accident involving three vehicles
GrabCar driver Francis Michael, 46, was ferrying three passengers on Monday afternoon when his car suddenly shook violently.
He turned around and saw his passengers covered in glass as his rear windshield had shattered.
Mr Francis, a property agent, was involved in a three-vehicle collision along Yishun Avenue 3, in front of block 776.
The accident involved a delivery van, Mr Francis' Nissan Sylphy and an SMRT bus, service number 169.
Mr Francis said: "I heard a bang, and my body lunged forward. I turned around to ask if my passengers were okay, and they were covered in glass. Thankfully, they said they were okay."
He was admitted to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) for back and neck pain. Mr Francis was discharged yesterday and given a month's medical leave.
A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman told The New Paper that an ambulance was sent to the scene and one person was taken to KTPH.
A police spokesman said investigations were ongoing.
Said Mr Francis: "I have not been able to sleep much. When I close my eyes, I remember the noise, and how I turned around only to see my passengers covered in glass."
They were travelling from Sembawang Air Base to Yishun MRT station.
One of his passengers, Mr Kayne Lim, 21, a full-time national service personnel, was with two other colleagues in the car.
Mr Lim said: "My body jerked forward before slamming back hard into my seat. My back feels stiff, and I've been on medical leave from the time of the accident until yesterday."
The delivery van driver, Mr Lim Ah Huat, 60, was on his way home from Thomson Road when the accident happened.
He said: "My chest hit the steering wheel, it was very painful."
One of the SMRT bus passengers, who only wanted to be known as Mr Lim, told TNP he was flung from the backseat to the fourth row, hitting a female passenger's head.
He fractured a finger on his right hand.
INVESTIGATIONS
SMRT's vice-president for corporate information and communications, Mr Patrick Nathan, confirmed that an SMRT bus was involved in an accident on Monday. He said SMRT has contacted the injured parties and is providing all necessary assistance.
Mr Nathan added they were cooperating with the police in their investigations.
Grab's Regional Safety Lead, Ms Kok Yi Ling, told TNP they were alerted to the accident by the driver on Tuesday.
She said: "We have conducted our accident investigation, also visited and provided counsel to the driver and passengers and are assisting in any insurance claims or other enquiries."
