Suspected hit-and-run drivers arrested

Traffic Police have arrested two errant drivers believed to be involved in separate hit-and-run accidents.

They are a 29-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a hit-and-run accident which occurred on July 31 along Jurong Town Hall Road, and a 30-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a hit-and-run accident which occurred on Tuesday (Aug 11) along Simei Avenue.

The Jurong accident involved two cars, a van and a motorcycle, the police said in a press statement on Wednesday (Aug 12).

The accident was captured on the in-car camera of one of the cars involved. The video shows a white car swerving, swiping the motorcycle from behind before crashing through the road divider.

The driver of the white car abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Following the accident, Traffic Police worked round the clock and managed to establish the identity of the suspect.

In a joint operation with the Central Narcotics Bureau, the 29-year-old man, believed to be the involved driver, was arrested for both traffic and drug offences on Aug 11 (Tuesday) in the vicinity of Hougang Street 21.

He is currently assisting with investigations, the statement said.

Eight vehicles

The second case, along Simei Avenue, involved six cars and two taxis.

The Aug 11 incident happened when the driver of a silver Saloon car lost control, causing the accident involving seven other vehicles.

After the collision, the driver fled the scene on foot.

One passenger sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. 

The 30-year-old driver was arrested in the vicinity of National University Hospital. Investigations against him are ongoing.

His driving licence will also be suspended.
