Dan Tan's ex-wife admits she knew about match-fixing activities
The ex-wife of alleged match-fixing kingpin, Dan Tan Seet Eng, admitted in court on Tuesday (May 17) she had lied to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
Guan Enmei, 41, is on trial for allegedly giving false information to a CPIB officer on June 6, 2013.
When cross-examined by Deputy Public Prosecutor Jasmin Kaur today, Guan initially said she was not aware about Tan's alleged involvement in international match-fixing in June 2013.
But DPP Kaur presented a report in The New Paper (TNP) published on March 24, that year.
In the interview, she was asked about reports and allegations on Tan's match-fixing involvement.
According to the TNP report, she replied the reports were 100 per cent false and totally untrue. DPP Kaur questioned her about this for more than 10 minutes before Guan finally admitted she was indeed aware of her ex-husband's alleged involvement in match-fixing at the time.
Also brought up was Guan's account of the day of the CPIB interview.
The China-born Singaporean left her home that day with a paper bag containing two laptops.
During an interview at CPIB headquarters at Lengkok Bahru, off Jalan Bukit Merah, she allegedly lied to the officer saying she left home with only her handbag.
Guan told the court today the lie was not about the paper bag and the laptops but about taking a taxi from Rivervale Crescent to CPIB HQ.
On Monday, the court heard she had taken a limousine there instead.
Guan did not explain why she lied about the taxi.
