Families get a push with Budget 2016
Social support may not have taken up the bulk of the budget, but there are several new measure as well as existing ones that will give families - especially those who are at risk financially - a boost.
1) A kickstart for the young
Parents will receive $3,000 in their new Child Development Account (CDA) First Step Grant for all Singaporean babies born from March 24.
To encourage more savings, the Government will also match parents' savings dollar-for-dollar in their child's CDA.
2) A new slate
Families with young children living in public rental flats after selling their first flats will be given a blank slate. The Fresh Start Housing Scheme gives such families a grant of up to $35,000 to own a two-room flat.
3) Measures for households
About 1.4 million Singaporeans will also receive the one-off GST vouchers of up to $500.
There will also be an increase in basic monthly cash allowance by $20 per month to $300.
