Lorry driver killed in three-vehicle collision at Woodlands
A lorry driver was killed in a collision involving his vehicle, a tipper truck and a van on Woodlands Road yesterday morning.
The lorry was headed towards Kranji Expressway when the accident occurred near Yew Tee Industrial Estate at around 9.50am.
It mounted the kerb and ended up facing oncoming traffic on the opposite lane.
It was not clear what caused the accident.
The 25-year-old male lorry driver was declared dead at the scene.
The New Paper understands that he was a foreign worker.
An operations manager, who wanted to be known only as Mr Joseph, 55, called TNP to report the accident.
KNOCKED OVER
He said: "I saw the accident on my way home. I didn't stop to see it, but there was a blue tent there. It also caused a traffic jam."
When TNP reached the scene at around 1.20pm, the vehicles involved had been removed.
A lamp post was knocked over and left tilting downwards, with the lamp only about 1.6m from the road.
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were seen washing the road with water jets.
Glass shards and debris from the collision were seen by the side of the road.
Skid marks were also present on the grass patch next to the road.
The police and SCDF were alerted to the accident at about 9.50am yesterday.
SCDF said a man, who was in his 50s, had minor injuries, but declined to be taken to hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
