Man busted for drugs in Little India
He was working at a cafe on the first level of Mustafa Centre when he heard a commotion at Syed Alwi Road yesterday.
Sensing something was wrong, the cafe supervisor stepped out to take a look and saw the police arresting a man at about 9am.
"The man looked disoriented when he got out of the car," said the supervisor, who wanted to be known as Mr Tarunsharma, 28.
"When the police handcuffed him, he didn't even struggle."
The police then cordoned off the area around the suspect's black-and-white saloon car.
Another witness, Madam Siti Zainab, 33, was on the other side of the road with her husband when she saw the man in handcuffs.
"The man was definitely not in a good state of mind," said Madam Siti, who contacted The New Paper hotline.
"He looked rather dazed."
After breakfast at a nearby coffee shop, the couple were heading to Farrer Park MRT station at about 10am.
Madam Siti said she felt afraid when she saw two police dogs sniffing the car.
"At first, I thought they had found a dead body," said the housewife.
"When my husband and I got closer to the scene, we realised that it was a drug bust."
The police laid out small packets of a powdery substance on the pavement outside the shopping mall.
The police saidtheir officers were on routine patrol along Syed Alwi Road at 8.48am when they conducted a check on a man in his 40s.
He was arrested for drug-related offences.
Investigations are ongoing.
