A 22-year-old man was arrested by the Police Coast Guard for unlawful entry into Singapore early yesterday.
The coast guard detected the man swimming in the sea off Gedong just after 12.45am, the police said.
They intercepted and arrested him 10 minutes later.
The incident comes just two days after a speedboat allegedly used to carry illegal immigrants and contraband cigarettes was intercepted off Tanah Merah in a joint operation by the coast guard and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
Four people were arrested and 532 cartons of duty unpaid cigarettes were seized.
