Man jailed for molesting girl, 11, and cheating
Logistics executive was also involved in cheating conspiracy
Feeling guilty after molesting an 11-year-old girl, he slipped her $10.
Logistics executive Ryan Ong Swee Chuan, 31, thought that by doing so, she would not be upset.
But the monetary gift did little to pacify the girl and she made a police report hours later on Aug 12 last year.
He was arrested two days later, and jailed for eight months yesterday after pleading guilty to two charges - one count of outrage of modesty and an unrelated cheating charge.
A second molestation charge involving the same victim was taken into consideration.
The girl, who was then in Primary 5, boarded SMRT bus service 903 at a bus stop near Block 23, Marsiling Drive at around 6.35am and sat at the left window seat in the back row.
Ryan Ong boarded the bus about five minutes later and sat beside her, even though there were many other seats available.
He tapped her right knee before stroking it for about three seconds.
Terrified, the girl moved closer towards the window, away from him.
HUGGED
As the bus was approaching Woodlands Bus Interchange, he suddenly held her waist and hugged her.
Both of them alighted after he gave her the money.
As for the cheating offence, the court heard he had engaged in a conspiracy with his cousin, Ong Jun Da, 26, and one Sollihin Anhar to try to dupe Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore of almost $5,800 in August 2013.
Sollihin, who worked in car workshops, hatched a plan to stage an accident and make fraudulent insurance claims later.
He roped in the Ong cousins and another man, Rahmat Mohd, and they staged the accident, which involved three vehicles, along Loyang Avenue towards Pasir Ris on Aug 26 that year.
Ong Jun Da lodged an accident statement the next day.
On Aug 28, Ryan Ong went to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and received two days' medical leave after lying to a doctor, claiming he was involved in an accident and had lower back pain.
He also instructed JusEquity Law Corporation to act on his behalf. On Feb 13 2014, it sent a letter of demand to Tokio Marine, asking for the $5,800 for personal injury.
But the court heard yesterday that no monies were disbursed.
Sollihin's case is still pending while Rahmat had earlier been jailed for seven years and three months after pleading guilty.
