NS police corporal sentenced to jail, cane for rape
He was a full-time National Service police officer when he extorted from a young couple and raped the 16-year-old girl.
Muhammad Shazwan Sapuwan, now 23, was a Special Constable Corporal doing his full-time national service in October 2014 when he tailed a 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend to a staircase landing in a block of flats.
He then watched from a level above as she performed oral sex on her 18-year-old partner.
He also took two photographs of the pair.
When the couple were done, Shazwan appeared and showed them his Police warrant card. At the time, he was wearing a Jurong Police Division Headquarters polo T-shirt and a pair of blue uniform pants.
He told the couple that they had committed an offence of "public nudity" and threatened to haul them back to the police station.
Recorded sex act
Shazwan then ordered the girl to perform oral sex on her boyfriend while he recorded them with his mobile phone.
Later, Shazwan also sexually assaulted the girl - she did not resist as she feared that he would report them.
Two days later, he extorted $40 in cash from her boyfriend by threatening to expose their sexually explicit videos if his demands were not met.
The court heard that by using a similar modus operandi, Shazwan had targeted two other couples.
On Monday (Feb 1), Shazwan was jailed for 18 years, and sentenced to 15 strokes of the cane.
