A 19-year-old has been charged with allegedly killing his own father, in an Oct 10 incident that shocked neighbours where they live at Block 653 Yishun Avenue 4.

Sylesnar Seah Jie Kai is accused of the murder of his father Eddie Seah Wee Teck, 47.

The teenager appeared in court via video link at about 10am on Oct 12 wearing a polo T-shirt and blue mask. He kept his head down during the proceedings.

Police requested for him to be remanded in Central Police Division for their investigations, and for him to be brought out to aid the process.

District Judge Terence Tay agreed for Sylesnar Seah, who is represented by lawyers Sunil Sudheesan and Ms Joyce Khoo from Quahe Woo and Palmer, to be remanded for two days.

Mr Sudheesan on Wednesday applied for unlimited access to the teen, to speak to him about the case and assist him with applications.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Sylesnar had been in a violent quarrel with his father before reportedly attacking him with two knives.

During a struggle, the victim apparently managed to grab one of the knives and ran downstairs to ask for help.

Sylesnar followed while holding the other knife and neighbours spotted the pair facing each other.

The victim was seen with his face and clothes covered in blood before he collapsed on the floor.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics and Sylesnar was arrested at the scene.

The deceased's wife and daughter returned to their flat on Tuesday morning, but waved their hands and declined to comment.

Reporters noted that the lingering smell of blood was still present on the fourth floor of the block on Tuesday. Some residents were seen cleaning up blood stains and lighting incense to dispel the odour.

Nee Soon Town Council had deployed cleaners after the police lifted their blockade of the scene. The workers were kept busy until 4am and later returned to paint over the bloody handprints on the walls.

Sylesnar is to appear in court again on Thursday.

Those convicted of murder face the death penalty.
