Girl, 13, fights off attacker who broke into her home
A Californian teen was left shaken but unharmed after she fought off a man who tried to rape her in her own home.
Security footage provided to ABC 7 News showed the 13-year-old being followed by her attacker as she made her way home from school, catching up with the girl as she unlocked her door.
While a struggle ensued after the man barged through the door, the plucky teen managed to break free of his grip, forcing the stunned attacker to beat a hasty retreat.
The unnamed girl told ABC 7 News: ""He started asking me really inappropriate questions, which I honestly didn't know the meaning of, but I knew it wasn't appropriate, so that's when I decided to run inside the house.
"I was just trying to get him off of me, so I pushed him back and at one point, I slammed my flat palm into his face.
"And I think that's what scared him off. Because right after I slammed my hand to his face, that's when he got off of me."
After fending off her attacker, the girl hid in a closet and texted her father: "DADDY COME HOME NOW. SOME GUY TRIED TO RAPE ME."
In connection, police have arrested a 31-year-old man, who is also believed to be responsible for another attempted sexual assault on a woman at a grocery store toilet.
While the girl escaped the ordeal physically unscathed, the incident has left a mark on her.
She said: "I'm really happy I'm safe and I fought him off. But I'm still really scared and I'm really low on trusting the outside world anymore."
