Scholes pulls out of Battle of Europe
Bad news for Manchester United fans.
Paul Scholes will not play in Saturday's (Nov 12) Battle of Europe 2016 match at the National Stadium after taking ill.
The former United midfielder was to arrive in Singapore on Friday night for the Masters match between England and Germany but was declared unfit to travel due to a chest infection.
The 41-year-old released a statement saying: "I'm really sorry to let the fans in Singapore down.
"I've been looking forward to playing in the stadium and meeting the fans, so this is disappointing.
"I am susceptible to infections, and my main focus now is to get my health in order.
"I look forward to the next opportunity where I can meet fans in Singapore."
MEET AND GREET CANCELLED
Scholes was also scheduled for a meet-and-greet session with fans at the Courts Megastore before the match.
Ex-Liverpool man Steve McManaman, who was set to line up alongside Scholes, was disappointed by the news but urged fans to attend the match.
He said: "I spoke to him today and he's not well — he's got a very bad chest infection so he's resting at home.
"He's very upset that he could not be here and was desperate to come out and see the fans, ex-teammates and players.
"He's looking forward to coming out on the next trip when he's fit and well.
"We urge the fans to come down and watch the game. There are lots of fantastic players and it'll be a wonderful competition, so please come along and have a good time!"
