Young Lions labour to 1-0 win over the Philippines
The Singapore Under-23 football team got off to a winning, albeit unconvincing, start to the SEA Games campaign by defeating the Philippines 1-0 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Defender Sheikh Abdul Hadi scored the winner with a glancing header off a set-piece on the stroke of half-time, in front of a capacity crowd of 6500.
The Young Lions dominated the match but were let down by their poor finishing, with star striker Sahil Suhaimi guilty of missing a hatful of chances.
Aide Iskandar's charges will face Myanmar in their next group A game on Thursday at the same venue.
