Singapore-registered tanker attacked in Malacca Strait
A Singapore-registered product tanker has been attacked in the Malacca Strait.
The report comes from The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre (ISC).
The tanker, Joaquim, while underway in the Malacca Strait was boarded by an unknown number of perpetrators.
The ship was carrying 3,500 metric tons of fuel oil.
The ship went missing on Saturday (Aug 8). Its last known position at 1.50pm was about 29 nautical miles north of Pulau Rupat.
The onboard Automatic Identification System onboard the vessel was reportedly turned off.
Malaysian and Indonesian authorities deployed surface and air assets to search for the vessel.
Early this morning, the Joaquim was located 14.1nm off Tanjung Kling.
Initial reports say that 3,000 metric tons of fuel oil had been siphoned and power to the generator was cut off.
The crew was safe except for two of the crew who had been hit by the perpetrators.
