Theresa Goh wins Singapore's first gold at 8th Asean Para Games
Swimmer Theresa Goh has won Singapore's first gold medal at the 8th Asean Para Games today (Dec 4).
Goh, classified S5, won the first swimming event of the day, the women's 100m freestyle S5 (S1-S5) in 1 min 45.31sec.
Teammate Yip Pin Xiu, classified S2 and swimming the backstroke, was second with 2:11.86 while Vietnam's Danh Thi My Thanh was third with 2:18.50.
Swimmers are allowed to swim any stroke they wish to in freestyle events, and APG swimming events are classified according to the swimmer's disabilities - S1 being the most disabled and S10 being the least.
While classified an S5 race, the event today comprised five swimmers across three disability categories - Yip (S2) and Nguyen Thi Den (S4) - due to the lack of participants in the other two categories.
