Driver fined, banned for hitting 78-year-old pedestrian
A driver was fined $2,400 and banned from driving for a year for hitting a 78-year-old pedestrian who suffered three fractures as a result.
Yesterday, Lim Bee Tin, 61, was convicted of negligently endangering human life on Sept 3 last year.
Lim was driving along Mei Chin Road towards Stirling Road. She then made a right turn onto Mei Ling Street but did so carelessly and knocked into Madam Goh Ah Loo who was crossing near the junction.
Lim felt an impact on the right side of the car and saw the victim.
Madam Goh was taken to National University Hospital (NUH) by ambulance where she was found to have suffered fractures to her right knee, ankle and wrist.
She was warded for 13 days in NUH before she was moved to Thye Hua Kwan Hospital for further treatment over another 69 days.
Defence lawyer Harvindarjit Singh said in mitigation that his client came out of her car immediately to help the victim after the accident. Lim also visited Madam Goh in hospital and had apologised to her family.
He also said it was an error of judgment from Lim.
But District Judge Low Wee Ping rejected this.
