He hits pub patron's eye with drinking glass
A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 30 months' jail and three strokes of the cane yesterday for hitting a pub patron's left eye and leaving his victim with a permanent injury.
Vincent Chong Kok Beng had pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Mr Lim Chien Hao, a 36-year-old Malaysian.
On Dec 3, 2014, Mr Lim was celebrating his and a colleague's birthday at Sakura Pub in Geylang, court papers said.
Chong was also in the pub and was seated near Mr Lim's group.
Things got heated after Mr Lim approached one of Chong's female friends.
Mr Lim had noticed her and had invited her over.
She drank with Mr Lim and his friends for a while before returning to Chong's table.
A brawl soon erupted between Chong and Mr Lim's friends.
Chong hit Mr Lim's left eye with a drinking glass, causing his face to bleed.
Pub bouncers broke up the fight and Mr Lim was escorted away to clean his wound.
The police were also called in and Chong was arrested.
Mr Lim was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and found to have suffered cuts on his forehead, eyelid and ear, as well as injury to his left eye.
His left upper eyelid was found to be drooping and he was warded for four days.
He was later advised to go for a second eye operation, but he opted to see an eye specialist in Penang due to financial constraints.
A medical report dated July 13 last year stated that Mr Lim's left eye injury was permanent.
The report also stated that Mr Lim could go blind in the left eye in the future if he did not go for enough treatment.
