TNP Review: Seiko Marinemaster GPS Solar Dual-Time
Seiko's Marinemaster is solidly built and features GPS technology
Seiko's Prospex Marinemaster GPS Solar Dual-Time is for those who enjoy going out to sea.
Launched earlier this year, the timepiece is built to withstand harsh weather conditions. It is water resistant up to 200m.
SCRATCH RESISTANT
Its case and bracelet are made of corrosion-resistant titanium and protected by a super hard coating. The two-piece ceramic bezel means the wearer never has to worry about scratches.
The Marinemaster, with its smooth edges, is shaped to avoid catching onto ropes and lines.
Its crown and buttons are designed to be easily used when one is busy at sea. Even with gloves on, the wearer can still feel and fiddle with them.
It also sports a three-fold clasp with push button release, a secure lock and a slide adjuster.
GPS TECHNOLOGY
The Marinemaster is the first in the Prospex series to incorporate the brand's Global Positioning System (GPS) Solar technology.
It utilises the 8X53 dual-time calibre, which uses GPS signals to regulate the time. This allows an easy switch to another time zone - there are 40 stored - at the touch of a button.
This means the watch adjusts to the local time anywhere on earth - on land or at sea - using just the power of light.
The wearer can set the time manually in the event the person is not able to get a clear view of the sky or a GPS signal.
The watch's dual-time function allows the wearer to read the local time while keeping track of the hours back home.
DAY OR NIGHT
The Marinemaster's face is easily readable day or night and under any weather conditions.
This is made possible by the coating of sapphire crystals inside and outside, which minimises glare and reflection.
It also has a perpetual calendar function that automatically corrects the day and date, both of which are prominently displayed, up until 2100.
OVERALL
The Marinemaster is a professional watch that combines elegance, durability and functionality. It is perfect for those who love adventures out at sea.
It retails at $5,686 and has a limited production of 1,500 sets.
