Caplan: The men welcomed me with fart jokes
Though she started out as a comedic actress, Lizzy Caplan is now best known for her portrayal of Virginia Johnson in the TV drama Masters Of Sex.
Now she plays one of the Four Horsemen in Now You See Me 2, replacing Isla Fisher who passed on the sequel because she's pregnant.
Caplan, 33, who plays Lula May, was just hoping she'd fit in but returning co-stars Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson "made it really easy".
"Luckily we have the same sense of humour and we are very immature, they welcomed me with all kinds of fart jokes that I happily played along with," she says with a laugh.
All except "dignified gentleman" Caine, of course, who "refrained from jumping in the mud with us".
What was it like being the only woman in the cast?
I found it really easy.
I have done a few things where it's been a primarily male cast. There weren't like pranks per se, but it was definitely an atmosphere of everybody making fun of everybody else all the time, all day long.
On certain days, if it's directed at you, that could get a little rough. But if you're part of the crowd directing it at someone else, it's really fun.
What were your character's specific skills that you had to learn at magic boot camp?
They taught me a few things to do at parties, like "break" my fingers and arm.
And cardistry, which is card manipulation. That's the most difficult and it takes a really long time to get good at. We would just kind of throw cards at each other all day long.
Did you meet female magicians?
I did a research on them and I think they make up only like 5 per cent of all magicians. There are obviously so many female magician assistants dressed in slutty outfits helping out the men (laughs).
What was it like to shoot in Macau?
It was the wildest place I'd ever been to. In many ways, it looks like Vegas - the casinos, the hotels with the same names.
But it's surrounded by Portuguese villages and the whole thing is in China. The place looked so unreal.
It was the last 10 days of shooting and we were all jet-lagged, exhausted and out of it.
