Huzaifah gets first Lions call-up
Balestier Khalsa defender Fadli Kamis and midfielder Huzaifah Aziz are the two new faces in Fandi Ahmad's latest national squad, the Football Association of Singapore announced yesterday.
It is a first national call-up for Huzaifah, 24, a nephew of former national midfielder Malek Awab, who had combined with Fandi to devastating effect for both club and country during their playing days in the '80s and '90s.
Huzaifah scored in Balestier's 2-2 draw with Brunei DPMM in last night's RHB Singapore Cup semi-final, second leg at the Toa Payoh Stadium.
Fadli has earned a recall, having last turned out for the Lions in 2014.
Said Fandi: "For this Fifa window, I've called up Huzaifah and Fadli, both of whom have performed consistently well for Balestier Khalsa this season. Hopefully, we will be able to give them a chance to show what they can do at the international level."
The Lions face Mongolia (Oct 12) and Cambodia (Oct 16) before a training camp in Japan ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup, where they are grouped with Indonesia, Thailand, Timor Leste and the Philippines.
Tickets for the home matches (Indonesia, Nov 9 and Timor Leste, Nov 21) are available on the Sports Hub website, with early-bird ticket sales closing on Oct 21.
