Jose: Cesc to fill Lampard void
Jose Mourinho reckons that Cesc Fabregas is the right man to replace Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
The ex-Arsenal captain has enjoyed a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge following his £30 million ($63m) move from Barcelona, scoring an excellent solo goal against Hungarian side Ferencvaros on Sunday (Aug 8) to win the pre-season friendly 2-1.
While his new manager Mourinho has conceded that Lampard - the club's all-time top scorer who was released from his contract after 13 years of service - is irreplaceable, the Portuguese tactician believes that Fabregas is the ideal footballer to take his place in midfield.
Speaking to Chelsea's official website, the ex-Porto and Inter Milan boss said: "Frank is the history of the club, history nobody can forget.
"Fabregas is the future; history is history but the future is more important at the moment.
"My opinion, and the opinion of my players, is that Fabregas is the right player to occupy that central position in midfield."
Lampard is now on loan with Chelsea's EPL rivals Manchester City till January from new Major League Soccer franchise New York City FC.
