Uefa ready to shift Champions League final to accommodate 2022 World Cup
Uefa is ready to accommodate the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by staging the Champions League final in June.
Fifa is set to shift the dates for the 2022 edition of the tournament from its traditional June/July time slot due to concerns over Qatar's soaring summer temperatures.
Should the world governing body opt for a January/February period to hold the World Cup, Uefa president Michel Platini believes there is no issue with pushing back the 2022 Champions League final by a month from its usual May slot.
No problem
The Frenchman said: "As the president of the confederation, I have no problem.
"Because it is not a problem for the competition of the Champions League, we can move the dates in 2022 and have two semi-finals and the final in June, so that is not a problem.
"Everybody speaks about the clubs and the leagues, but if it is in November and December, then you lose six dates of the national teams. But we are not so far away (from an agreement) with Fifa."
One problem with the plan is that Fifa could go with a November/December date after it had promised the International Olympic Committee that it would avoid a scheduling conflict with the Winter Olympics.
Fifa will announce its decision on the 2022 World Cup dates in March.
