Schooling offered free flights on AirAsia
Singapore swimmer Joseph Schooling has been given free flights for life by AirAsia.
The low-cost carrier decided yesterday that all Asean athletes who won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics can enjoy the special privilege.
Besides Schooling, who won the 100m butterfly, the Indonesian badminton pair of Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad, Vietnamese shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, as well as Thai weightlifters Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan clinched gold in Brazil.
AirAsia's statement said that the Asean athletes who won silver and bronze medals would also be given free flights for five and two years respectively.
"We hope it will encourage others in the region to follow in their footsteps. I look forward to seeing more medals from Asean in future games," said AirAsia's group CEO Tony Fernandes. - Wire Services.
