Wednesday’s Hong Kong (Sha Tin) form analysis

Handsome Twelve to rise again

Race 1 (1,800m)

8 Chiron can turn his form around on the dirt. He is a smart little racer on the surface. With even luck, he rates strongly, especially with two runs under his belt this term. He is worth taking a chance on to bounce back to his best.

5 Sun Of Makfi went awfully close last start and should be able to do something similar again. He is drawn well and gets every chance with Zac Purton at the helm.

2 M M Nebula was a solid winner two starts ago. He has remained in solid form.

11 Starship Eighty is improving and just needs to overcome the wide draw.

Race 2 (1,200m)

8 Beat Hollow caught the eye in a recent trial. He is in the right grade now and this level of racing should suit him. The strong booking of Karis Teetan warrants respect, especially for trainer Me Tsui, who, across recent seasons, has returned sound dirt-course results.

3 Vamos is in the right vein of form and should get every opportunity. He has a suitable draw and is ever so close to a first win.

7 Lucky Ruby knows how to score on the dirt. It would not surprise to see him try to lead this group under Purton.

2 Spicy So Smart is next best. He is a class dropper.

Race 3 (1,650m)

8 Ever Blessing is better than his record indicates and significant improvement is expected. He has trialled well ahead of his first start on the dirt. The one to beat.

2 Gallant Hero is chasing a fourth straight success. He has hit superb form and is a leading chance again. However, the widest gate (No. 14) can prove to be a barrier.

9 Reliable Profit continues to make inroads and can take another step forward. He is another with a poor draw, though.

11 Asian One should be fit and ready to fire third-up. Keep safe.

Race 4 (1,200m)

5 Brave Witness has caught the eye leading up to his debut. He should get a sweet run from gate 1 and prove hard to beat, even though this is a rather deep contest. He should have decent odds.

9 Smart Folks returns first-up following a last-start win. He looks primed with a smart trial and several strong workouts at home.

1 Happy Fat Cat is straightforward and he will get his shot either by leading or on the pace. He showed a stack of vigour to win last start.

2 Man Star can figure. Do not discount.

Race 5 (1,200m)

9 Cool Blue should have won a race last season. Nevertheless, he returns in super condition armed with Purton. He is the one to beat if he manages to replicate the form he is capable of producing.

8 Killer Instinct is versatile and was a sharp first-up course-and-distance winner. Expect him to perform at that level once more.

1 Flying Dragon narrowly missed first-up. He can continue to race at the level, especially from gate 2.

2 Mega Bonus gets a handy 7lb (3.18kg) claim from apprentice Angus Chung. Keep safe.

Race 6 (1,650m)

3 Adefill is a super talent on the dirt. He appears primed for a successful return with several trials under his belt. Teetan retains the ride and he is the one to beat.

2 Fiery Diamond loves the dirt and rates strongly in this grade. He can improve second-up and the wide gate is the only concern.

11 Perfect Team is lightly raced but has shown his qualities on the dirt. He slots in super light with 10lb coming off his back, thanks to apprentice Ellis Wong.

14 Nordic Star gets Purton up. He commands respect.

Race 7 (1,650m)

9 Handsome Twelve should improve out of sight second-up, following that first outing for a smack-up sixth on turf. He is better suited to dirt, having scored all his four wins on the surface over this trip. Purton’s services should see him prove hard to beat.

5 Youthful Deal is another who will enjoy hopping back on the dirt. He is a superb talent on the surface and the inside gate is a big advantage.

4 Apache Pass returns to a suitable grade. He has claims over the course and distance, but the draw is not ideal against this calibre of opponents.

2 Chancheng Prince is next in line.

Race 8 (1,200m)

7 Lovero makes his Hong Kong debut. He brings some solid Japanese dirt form with him and makes his first start at Sha Tin on the surface. He is worth taking a chance on, especially as a four-year-old with his fair share of racing experience in the bag.

4 Self Improvement is chasing back-to-back wins. He has got a difficult draw but his latest effort was outstanding. He can improve.

5 Galaxy Patch was an impressive turf winner on debut. He should be able to transfer that form to the dirt.

3 Pulsar Strider is next in line.
