White Swans eye a sweep in 2016
Albirex Niigata are coming off the most successful campaign of their 12-year existence in the Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League.
Apart from equalling their best finish in the S.League by finishing third, they also won the RHB Singapore Cup and The New Paper League Cup to become the first side to win both competitions in a single season.
And in a warning to their rivals, the White Swans say they have already set their sights on going one better in 2016.
"Of course, our target for next year is to win the treble," Albirex chairman Daisuke Korenaga told The New Paper yesterday.
Throughout the season, the club consistently maintained that their target was to win every trophy on offer.
When asked which areas they would be looking to improve next season to achieve the feat, coach Tatsuyuki Okuyama identified that the depth of the squad was lacking.
He explained: "Out of the 25 players we have, about 13 or 14 players worked very hard from the beginning of the season.
"At the start of the season, we were able to show our ability playing against our opponents for the first time, but after that they knew what we were capable of that was a difficult situation for us.
"But in the final third of the season, I think these 13 or 14 players did well to overcome these difficulties and showed their abilities again so I was happy with their development.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't see much of this development in the rest of the players."
Apart from their on-field success, Albirex have also been very active with their community work off the pitch and have formed a strong partnership with Yuhua SMC through various outreach programmes.
Korenaga is hoping they will continue to enhance their presence in the community in the coming years.
"We will keep learning from the people in Yuhua, as well as the wider community in Singapore," he said.
