Movie Review: Bastille Day (NC16)
Richard Madden, who plays Paris-based US pickpocket Michael Mason, is such a feast for the eyes.
Even as Idris Elba (as former CIA agent Sean Briar) wallops him nearly to death, every curl remains in place. Roll your eyes if you must, but it is hard not to get distracted by Prince Charming himself when the convoluted plot gets confusing at some points.
Mason has to flee from the CIA after he steals a bag later found to contain a bomb. Briar tries to hunt him down and finds himself at the centre of a crime of corruption within the French political system.
Enlisting Mason's help, the unlikely pair try to get to the bottom of things.
And then there is Zoe Naville (Charlotte Le Bon), the owner of the bag who eventually joins in.
Pay attention to the details and you may get rewarded at the end.
Verdict: 3/5
