Crazy rich Asians storm red carpet with crazy good - and bad - looks
Cast of Crazy Rich Asians stormed the red carpet with crazy good - and not-so-good - style
CONSTANCE LAU (A)
Premiere of Crazy Rich Asians in Los Angeles
Gown: Time Taken To Make A Dress
Lau is a 2008 The New Paper New Face alumnus, so we're feeling more than just national pride that, 10 years on, she has made it to Hollywood. Small role aside, she even shows up her namesake Constance Wu, the movie's leading lady, in this exquisite modern take on the cheongsam - by a homegrown brand, in Singapore colours no less.
AWKWAFINA (B-)
Premiere of Crazy Rich Asians in Los Angeles
Gown: Reem Acra
Clutch: Jimmy Choo
Luxe ballgown. Old Hollywood glam styling. Blush-and-red colour story. Everything is a success - almost. Your big gala premiere is not the time to bring out the resting B-face. No one should look this peeved and/or miserable during such a fairytale moment. A smile would have gone a long way. Like, to the top of the best-dressed list.
CONSTANCE WU (C+)
Premiere of Crazy Rich Asians in Los Angeles
Gown: Ralph & Russo
The arm tassels and architectural bustline add high drama, but this kind of statement gown is best reserved for a much taller woman. Wu appears to be encased in expensive bubble wrap. And any time she sits down, that breastplate is going to slash her throat.
MICHELLE YEOH (D)
Premiere of Crazy Rich Asians in Los Angeles
Gown: Armani Prive
It really doesn't matter what she's wearing, because who can get beyond the weird, wiggy horsey hair? Focus-pulling in the worst possible way, it's as if a rodent just died on her head. Then again, this is probably what a real crazy rich Asian looks like.
ALYSON STONER (F)
Premiere of The Meg in Los Angeles
Pantsuit: Styland
She took theme dressing quite literally, turning up in a sloppy three-piece that screams shark attack survivor. The "Meg" didn't just eat her shirt - it took a big bite out of her dignity too.
