Working off those calories together is what keeps these couples tight
Couples who sweat together stay together, goes the saying.
You can easily spot them on social media where they post pictures of themselves at the gym, modishly labelling it #relationshipgoals.
But how does working out together help a relationship's flame burn bright?
For Mr Ivan Toh, 26, a quality control officer, and his girlfriend Emily Ang, 23, an operations executive, working out is the one thing that has kept their relationship strong.
They have been together for almost 10 years.
Miss Ang says: "It lets us spend quality time together. It is a great way for us to eliminate distractions like gadgets and technology.
"This helps us continuously foster and nurture our relationship."
QUALITY TIME
The couple first met when they were in secondary school.
"Sometimes, working out helps us relive our childhood and that kind of quality time is so hard to come by nowadays, but I'm glad that we make it a point to do it," she adds.
For other couples, fitness is a way to learn more about their partners.
Freelance model Yan-chi Freidanck says a recent run helped her discover the "sweet side" of her no-nonsense competitive boyfriend.
She and Mr Lionel Wee, both 25, took part in a 10km racelast month.
Miss Freidanck says: "The run was definitely more challenging for me than for Lionel. I kept stopping to catch my breath.
"I told him to run ahead and I'd catch up later but Lionel, who is usually competitive, stopped and walked with me every time I had to stop.
"I love that his competitiveness challenges me. But, it was endearing to see that even while pushing me, he also never failed to support me".
The couple started dating a year ago after being friends for many years.
Mr Wee, who recently returned to Singapore after graduating from a university in Canada, says: "During the run, I realised that she's stronger and more determined than I give her credit for. I was proud that she completed the entire run without any major problems".
Miss Freidanck says their "mutual love for the outdoors" feeds their active lifestyle.
"When I went to Canada (for a holiday), Lionel planned a list of activities from kayaking, swimming, running, rock climbing to bowling. We love doing stuff like that."
As for Mr Toh, he says he and Miss Ang "are training for another marathon".
"And it's always so much fun because we step away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and catch up - just the two of us," he says.
Mr Toh and Miss Ang are preparing to compete in the 6km Acti-Tape Garfield and Arlene Couple Run event at the upcoming Garfield Run 2015.
Miss Ang says: "While completing a run is a great accomplishment for us, the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the time I get to spend with my boyfriend."
