7 Letters (PG)
This is one local movie you need to catch - and now you can.
You can watch it at seven selected Golden Village cinemas from Aug 20 to 26.
Billed as seven local directors' (Eric Khoo, Jack Neo, K. Rajagopal, Royston Tan, Tan Pin Pin, Boo Junfeng and Kelvin Tong) love letters to Singapore, this anthology truly is a passion project that will strike a chord with the older generation.
Nostalgia is aplenty in the segments by Khoo, Neo, Tong, Rajagopal and Boo as they examine aspects of Singapore's past. Royston focuses on neighbourly relationships while Pin Pin takes a more personal approach to political separation.
All seven shorts are very different yet harmonious, united for one cause: To celebrate Singapore cinema.

Mr. Holmes (PG)
What if the brilliant Sherlock Holmes started losing his marbles in his old age?
Mr. Holmes explores that idea wonderfully, re-imagining the fictional detective as a man past his prime.
Based on the book A Slight Trick Of The Mind by Mitch Cullin, the drama sees Ian McKellen as the retired titular sleuth who enlists the help of his housekeeper Mrs Munro (Laura Linney) and her young son Roger (Milo Parker).
Fans of BBC's Sherlock series will find Mr. Holmes has a very different tone.
Though both are postmodern re-tellings, the latter feels more nostalgic rather than exhilarating.
McKellen is suitably magnificent as the elderly Holmes, bringing a mixture of gravitas and playfulness to the role. Powerful stuff.
