‘Maybe one day, I’ll propose in S’pore’
After his inaugural concert in Singapore with his Irish alternative rock band Kodaline tomorrow, guitarist Mark Prendergast is looking forward to returning home with memories of our delectable local dishes and an energetic crowd - things that he has heard so much about.
But in future, there might be an extra reason why our city is especially unforgettable.
Prendergast, 26, does not rule out the possibility of proposing to The One on stage here should Kodaline return to perform one day.
That is, when the bachelor - the only single one in the quartet - finally has a special someone to speak of.
Late last month, Kodaline bassist Jason Boland, with the help of the band's close friend, English singer Ed Sheeran, got down on bended knee before 80,000 fans at the latter's gig in Dublin and proposed to his childhood sweetheart Etaoin Corr.
It was a touching moment that had Prendergast struggling to keep a dry eye. Kodaline, also comprising vocalist Steve Garrigan and drummer Vincent May, Jr., were Sheeran's supporting act.
"We got really emotional. It was really crazy. Backstage, there were girls crying everywhere. I'm not going to tell you if I was crying," he told The New Paper with a laugh over the phone from his hometown in Dublin.
"Maybe I might do the same one day... maybe in Singapore," he teased.
Also on Kodaline's list of memorable events is their experience working with Hollywood actress Courteney Cox and her Snow Patrol guitarist-pianist fiancé Johnny McDaid at the couple's Malibu home last year.
The foursome, who have enjoyed soaring success with their hits High Hopes and All I Want, still find it hard to wrap their heads around their rising fame.
"We've gone three years without a break but it's been so rewarding. Sometimes we hear our fans sing All I Want with us and it gets very emotional each time... almost life-changing," he said.
