Malaysia suspends National Service this year to cut costs
This article is more than 12 months old
National Service has been suspended.
No, not in Singapore, boys, but in Malaysia.
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said: "The National Service programme for 2015 is suspended as part of cost-cutting measures."
He added: "A suspension of the National Service programme for 2015 will save RM400 (S$148) million, and will allow for the programme to be re-examined and improved."
Some Malaysians are happy about this particular cost-cutting measure.
Some were a little too hopeful.
