A YouTube video of a woman saving a kitten stuck in the middle of a junction has gone viral.

It was uploaded by user E511 and titled I sound stupid, but I saved a kitten.

The frail looking kitten seems to have fallen from the undercarriage of a red car.

At first, none of the motorists takes notice of it.

The kitten is clearly in distress as it tries to run to safety before the biker notices it and gestures to an oncoming truck to stop so she can get off her bike and save it.

She manages to pick up the kitten and passes it to a horror-stricken passer-by who holds it while she moves her bike off the road.

The biker described the incident: "Still shaking! Thank you to the mystery lady that helped and all the people that paid attention and stopped, it was very appreciated. Kitten turned out to be a he, and is resting safely now."

She has since taken the kitten in and named him "Skidmark" .

The video, taken from a GoPro camera attached to the biker's helmet, was uploaded on Oct 19. It already has more than 1.7 million views.
