Elderly woman's hand severed by HDB lift doors
A woman in her 80s had her left hand severed after it became stuck in between lift doors at her HDB block.
The incident happened Friday morning (Oct 9) at the ground floor of Block 322 of Tah Ching Road near Jurong Lake.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said that they were alerted at 7.27am and deployed one ambulance, one fire engine, one Red Rhino, two fire bikes and one support vehicle to the location.
They found the elderly woman stuck inside the lift with her left hand trapped in the lift door.
Madam Selvi, a resident of the block had arrived at the lift landing shortly after the incident happened.
She told The New Paper: "She had just walked her dog and was going up to her unit. Her hand then got stuck after she placed her hand out because she didn't want the door to close."
Using rescue tools, SCDF pried open the doors to release the woman.
The spokesman said that she was then taken to National University Hospital with a serious injury to her left hand.
The New Paper understands that paramedics retrieved the severed hand, packaged it in ice and it taken to the hospital with the woman.
