Two S'poreans killed in South Africa road accident
They were killed after their vehicle overturned
On Friday, engineer Thon Siew Peng died in South Africa.
He was on the way to the airport to return to Singapore after a work trip when the accident happened.
According to reports, a tyre on the goods vehicle he and his five Singaporean colleagues were in blew out, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Other than Mr Thon, fellow Singaporean and engineer Yong Heng Wei, 32, succumbed to his injuries as well.
The Singaporeans were on a work trip for their company, Advanced Material Engineering - a wholly-owned unit of Singapore Technologies Kinetics, Singapore Technologies Engineering's land systems arm.
According to the official website, it designs and manufactures munitions, protective materials and guided system components.
They also provide consultancy for homeland security solutions.
One of the colleagues is believed to be seriously injured in a South African hospital.
The other three who suffered less severe injuries have returned home.
The obituaries appeared in The Straits Times yesterday.
Mr Yong had joined the company six months ago.
When The New Paper on Sunday went to Mr Yong's wake at a funeral parlour last night, more than 30 family and friends had turned up to offer support.
A man who identified himself as Mr Yong's cousin, 43, confirmed that the body arrived in Singapore yesterday.
He said that Mr Yong was married and has children.
"The family is grieving and they decline to comment," he said.
Mr Yong's secondary school friends who were there also declined comment.
Mr Yong's hearse will leave for Mandai Crematorium on Monday at 4pm.
