Man on trial for raping woman on Kallang Bahru bridge
A man is on trial for allegedly raping and robbing a 34-year-old woman who had accepted a ride from him.
Haliffie Mamat, 24, is claiming trial to one charge of aggravated rape and another charge of robbery.
The prosecution made its opening statements in the High Court on Monday (May 18). It argued the victim had been trying to get a cab for an hour along River Valley Road but was unsuccessful at about 5am on May 4, 2013.
Haliffie had allegedly been watching her before driving up to her and offering her a ride.
She accepted and he allegedly drove her to a bridge along Kallang Bahru.
He allegedly raped her there, before kicking her out of the car and driving off with her Louis Vuitton handbag.
The prosecution will be calling 14 witnesses to the stand.
