Our Blocks Rock party at Yew Tee this weekend
Magician's act takes centre stage in this weekend's Our Blocks Rock series of parties near Yew Tee MRT station
Want to see a water fountain appear out of thin air?
Catch Jonathan the magician this weekend during the third round of the Our Blocks Rock series of parties.
Organised by the People's Association (PA) Panel of Activists for Community Engagement (Pace) and The New Paper, these block parties are hip and vibrant spin-offs of the pasar malam concept (night market).
TNP ILLUSTRATION: CEL GULAPAAfter this weekend, the parties will take place in 14 other heartland areas, over selected weekends, till December.
Each chosen precinct will host a party over two days, aiming to give people a platform to bond through food and fun.
This weekend, the parties will be held at the hardcourt beside Yew Tee MRT station from 4pm to 10pm.
Magician Jonathan Ng Jun Hui, 24, will perform on both days this weekend.
On top of a ring and rope trick, there's an interactive item where he will invite the audience to dance and do the tricks together.
The grand finale will feature him making a water fountain and a snowstorm appear on stage.
Mr Ng said: "It's in my blood to perform so I'm just happy to have this opportunity to make an impact through my magic."
LIVE KARAOKE
Other entertainment include a yoga demonstration, a Bollywood dance performance, as well as a live karaoke session featuring two singers.
They will be singing English and Cantonese songs, and will invite people to join them on stage.
Various interest groups from Yew Tee Community Centre will also be at the parties to conduct workshops like mini table tennis, balloon sculpting and craft beads.
Revellers can walk away with their own unique creations, such as simple swords and beautiful flowers from these sessions, scheduled from 4pm to 7pm on each day.
Residents can also look forward to a variety of food, including sotong and chicken burgers.
