WATCH: Much ado over pizza Part 1: US man gets $2,800 tip for delivery
A delivery man in the United States got a whopping US$2,084 (S$2,770) tip on Thursday (Jan 15).
No, he didn't strike lottery. The windfall came from delivering just one pizza.
And it wasn't even an expensive, top-of-the-line offering from a high-class restaurant, mind you.
Just a regular order from Pizza House - where the most expensive pizza on the menu is a 14-inch large specialty pizza. Price: US$22.95.
The huge tip was not a spur-of-the-moment gesture. It was planned, of course.
After all, one pizza can't feed 200 hungry people.
Show their appreciation
The tip came about when realtors of Keller Williams attending a company conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Ann Arbor, Michigan decided to pool together money and gifts to show their appreciation to someone in the service industry.
That someone happened to be Rob. His last name was not stated.
Detroit Free Press reported delivery manager Brian LeFevre saying:
"He (Rob) was clearly pretty ecstatic about something, so I asked him what's going on.
"He said, 'I just had a life-changing delivery.' He was kind of blown away.
"For one pizza, that's a pretty good day's work."
One of the conference attendees, Stacey McVey, said: "It's really important as businesses that we give back. We believe a group of people can come together and change a life and cause other people to think about how to change others' lives.
"People in the service industry, I think they're pretty under-appreciated. It's a lot of fun to do something like this."
