Singapore man dies in burning car after Johor crash
The charred body of a driver was found on Monday morning after a car caught fire opposite a petrochemical plant in Jalan Pekeliling Industrial Park in Johor, Malaysia.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the man who died was a 62-year-old Singaporean, according to the local police.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said it received an emergency call regarding the incident on Monday at around 11.15am.
Acting chief of Pasir Gudang fire station Sarhan Akmal Mohamad told Malaysian newspaper The Star that 10 firemen were deployed to the scene.
The car – believed to be a Nissan Almera – crashed into a tree on the side of the road for unknown reasons and then burst into flames. The driver was trapped, had no time to escape and was burnt to death in the car.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Johor Fire and Rescue Department found that the driver was already dead. Rescue tools were used to remove the victim’s charred body from the car.
Investigations are ongoing.
