UPDATE: So he was not being robbed after all

An elderly busker, who was assumed to have been "robbed in broad daylight" on March 7, has explained that the passer-by who took money from his tip jar had actually asked him for it.

In a video that circulated online, the busker is seen performing outside Mandarin Gallery in Orchard Road when a younger man wearing headphones approaches and stops next to the busker's tip jar.

It appears the busker is stunned when the man takes something from the jar and walks away, causing netizens to believe he was robbed.

A woman then comes along and calls out to the man after speaking briefly with the busker.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the busker, Chua Kim Seng, said the young man had actually asked him for money to buy food. He added that it was not the first time he had met the younger man.

Chua, 78, told Shin Min that he explained to the female passer-by what happened and reassured her that it was not a big deal at that time.

Known as Singapore's OG (slang for "original") dancing man, Chua has been performing at several locations across Singapore for the past nine years.
