Man arrested for armed robbery near Tiong Bahru
Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who committed armed robbery at Jalan Bukit Ho Swee this week.
The man opened the front passenger door of a stationary taxi at 8.18pm on Thursday. He waved a sharp object about and demanded that the cabby hand over his money, stated a police press release.
After the cabby complied, the man fled with his loot.
The taxi driver then called the police, who reviewed footage from close-circuit television cameras in the area.
Behaving suspiciously
On Friday, police received a call from another taxi driver who noticed a passenger behaving suspiciously.
Officers who arrived at the scene noticed that the passenger fit the profile and CCTV image of Thursday's armed robber.
The man was arrested at Orchard Road at 12.11pm.
He will be charged in court with armed robbery on Saturday.
If found guilty, he will be jailed between three and 14 years, and will receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
