Movie Review: Hands Of Stone (R21)
Hands Of Stone does not do Roberto Duran justice.
While Edgar Ramirez does his best to portray the real-life Panamanian boxing champ, the treatment of the characters' internal emotions is flimsy.
Ramirez 's Duran patriotically boxes for his homeland's honour, but acts obnoxiously and macho outside the ring. Is he a hero or zero?
Robert De Niro could have brought a lot more depth to his role as superstar trainer Ray Arcel, but isn't given sufficient screentime to explore Arcel's motivations behind training many world champions.
Nonetheless, kudos to the biopic's sound director, because we get cracking thunder every time Duran swings his fists into his opponent's chest.
