Movie Review: The Man Who Knew Infinity (PG13)
This is a brilliant film, like A Beautiful Mind meets Slumdog Millionaire.
We get a glimpse into the mind of real-life Indian mathematical genius
Srinivasa Ramanujan
(Dev Patel) and watch him move from Madras (now Chennai) to the hallowed halls of Cambridge University.
Accepted as a protege by famed professor G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons), Ramanujan struggles to prove both his mathematical theories and his right to be at Cambridge, as his white professors treat him with racist suspicion.
Ramanujan's story is a fascinating one, and the unlikely friendship between him and Hardy is portrayed perfectly by Patel and Irons.
There is something almost spiritual about this film that makes it more than just a maths biopic. Beautifully shot and sensitively acted, it's a classic underdog tale with real depth.
