TNP New Face 2016: Grayce Tan
Grayce Tan, 19
Student at National University of Singapore's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Grayce has always been self-conscious. She said she is more muscular than most girls as she has been a ballet dancer for the past 11 years, and has practised taekwondo for a decade.
But she has since learnt to embrace her figure, now seeing it as a symbol of health and strength.
"I have found peace with the understanding that everyone has different body types, and that comparison really is the thief of joy," she said.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
God made all of us unique and special.
You only have one body, so we should all learn to embrace and love our bodies.
True beauty comes from being comfortable in our own skin, and that shines from inside out.
Who do you admire the most?
My younger siblings, who are eight and 10.
I always strive to see the world through childlike eyes like theirs, and to have that same wonder for learning and their love of people.
If you could travel to anywhere in the world for free, where would you go and why?
Iceland. I think it is one of the most beautiful and scenic places. It has an ethereal and almost magical feel.
It is definitely on my bucket list to watch the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) one day too.
What was your favourite subject in school?
Chinese. I had great teachers in both primary and secondary school, and they made the lessons enjoyable for me.
What was the latest concert you attended?
I have never been to a concert because it is always bad timing due to school.
But if I could, it would probably be Taylor Swift's - she rocked my teenage years.
