11 years' jail for Telok Blangah mother who tortured son to death
Cleaner Zaidah, 41, who abused her two-year-old son until he died on Nov 23 last year was jailed 11 years on Tuesday (July 5).
Her boyfriend, Zaini Jamari, 46, also a cleaner, was jailed 10 years and given 12 strokes of the cane.
On June 23, they each pleaded guilty in court to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Mohamad Daniel Mohamad Nasser and three counts of ill-treating him.
They repeatedly slapped and kicked the toddler nearly every day between Oct 18 and Nov 22.
Daniel was also force-fed chilli.
Once, Zaidah stamped on his chest after he fell when she hit him.
He died from a fatal blow to his head.
The abuse in a one-room rental flat at Block 19, Telok Blangah Crescent, was so horrifying Deputy Public Prosecutor Claire Poh likened Daniel's living conditions to that of a concentration camp.
Before handing out the sentence, Principle District Judge Bala Reddy said the pair had abused Daniel in a ruthless and unrelenting manner, inflicting severe torture on him.
